It was a crisp fall day. Cali adjusted the lime green/dark green striped scarf he often wore during the cold weather as he sat in the back of the moving car, looking excitedly out the window as they passed green, gold, and red trees, some changing with the fall and the pines keeping an evergreen color. Cali had been surprised when Alistair had decided to allow him, Ilac, Marie (with the twins of course), Jo to come meet his family. While Marie sat in the back with him and the twins, Ilac sat up front with Ali, watching the trees and hills pass by.

It was a mix of feelings that hit the young, dark haired woman as she sat in the back of the vehicle and constantly checked the two boys strapped securely into their car seats. This was indeed one of those times when she had no idea how to react to the events around her, what to talk about, even what expressions to make. She could hardly think what she would say or do when they got there. It hadn’t exactly been her idea to introduce herself to Alistair’s family. When she had decided to make him the twins’ godfather, it was with the expectation that he would be part of her family with Marie not having any obligation to his family in return. It seemed, however, that this was not the case. She had somehow been talked into this little outing to meet these people and she was almost struggling not to get over exasperated at the whole ordeal. By some impossible means, they had gotten her to dress up, hair down and wearing a powder blue dress, and gotten her into the car with both her sons. It was almost too much to take. However, she kept herself composed and continued to fuss Damitri and Nathaniel as any good mother would as they cooed and gurgled and sucked absently on the corners of their blankets. She said not a word, taking everything in in silence.
She simply wasn’t used to it. Marie would rather be home where she belonged with the twins, a good book, and possibly Cali or Ilac there for company, not going somewhere to be a guest and a not-so-social butterfly. Giving a sigh, she adjusted that little knit cap on Nathaniel’s head to fall over his ears. It was cold enough for her to actually wear a jacket and there was a chance they could catch cold; the last thing any mother wanted. She swore if anything happened to her sons, she would never leave home again.

Jo was sitting in the back with Marie. Her hair was down and she was wearing a pretty blouse and a black skirt. Casual but still nice-looking. She also had on a little more make-up than usual so she could make a nice first impression. She was so excited to meet Alistair's family. She was practically giggling in her seat as she looked out the window of the car with a dreamy face and sighed, "Oh Ali... I can't wait to meet zem... Eef zey're anyzing like you I'll 'ave met my dream family..." she said with a chuckle as she leaned forward and kissed the back of Ali's head and giggled, "I 'ope zey like me..." she said as she patted the twins on the heads and smiled, "Zey're nice... Right? Of I'm sure zey are I mean... You grew up wiz zem and you're like ze nicest sweetest guy ever..." she said with a blush as she went back to looking out the window.

Alistair gave a happy grin as Jo talked to him and blushed a little when she gave him the little kiss, keeping his eyes on the road ahead. "I'm sure they'll like you, Jo," he replied to her enthusiastically, looking back at her in the rear-view mirror. "I think my niece Coco will like you especially... she's really- she's really inquisitive, as her dad would say," he said. He watched the road again and said, "She asks a lot of questions, knows a lot of things... I think you two will get along extremely well!" Alistair smiled and glanced back at Jo as he said this.
Reaching a straighter patch of road than he'd seen in the last few hours, Alistair looked back to the back seat and asked, "You all doing alright back there? We'll be there in about fifteen minutes, so you know." He then turned back to the wheel and continued watching the road.

As they continued down the road, Marie hardly seemed to be paying attention to the little conversation present between Josephine and Alistair. She wasn’t nearly as excited as the French woman accompanying them in the backseat of the car, but then again, she wasn’t the one dating Alistair. She was just the one with the kids. Looking up at the scenery moving past them, Marie absently retied one of Damitri’s shoes and replaced a teddy bear Nathaniel had tossed to the floor. If she could handle 15 more minutes of this, she would be able to survive the visit. “The sooner we get there, the better…” Her voice was low as if she was hardly speaking to anyone at all and then, almost on cue, both twins gave a whimper that turned quickly into crying. One threw his hat, the other his bear and Marie gave an annoyed sigh as she silenced them both with pacifiers. That was only the 4th time they’d done that and she was almost positive that if it happened again, she wouldn’t be able to stop them. Replacing the hat and the bear again, she sat back in her seat and shut her eyes for a moment of peace. “I’m going to need a drink after this is over….”

Ilac looked boredly at Alistair. "I've been better." He said quaintly. Cali also looked at Alistair. "This really was nice of you to allow us to see your family Alistair. I suppose it only makes sense, you being the godfather and all." Cali looked back out the window again. "Your brother lives in a very nice area by the way."

"Oh I'm so excited!" Jo said as she looked out the window, "I can't wait to meet zis Coco person, she sounds very nice! And I also can't wait to meet your brozer and and... Well I can't really wait to meet everyone really!" she said with a giggle, "What a beautiful area!" she smiled and looked around at everything with wide brown eyes.
This was going to be an exciting meeting.

Alistair smiled yet again with all of these affirmations of good cheer, looking out the window when both Jo and Cali commented on the scenery. "Yeah... Northern Virginia really is rather pretty in the fall..." he agreed absently as he drove. To tell the truth, he was almost as enthusiastic as Jo; this was going to be a pretty nice family reunion.
They kept along the road a little while longer until Alistair spotted the driveway branching off the main road. "Here we are!" he announced happily as he turned onto the dirt driveway and drove towards the house.
In the house, a certain blue-skinned, freckle-covered girl was watching from her bedroom window. She suddenly perked when she saw her uncle's car driving down her driveway. The girl jumped up and started running down the stairs as quickly as she could, past her mother and father, towards the front door, shouting, "They're here!!" all the while.

Jo literally jumped out of the car as she looked in awe of the house. This was where they were. Alistair's family and her dream in-laws. She clasped her hands together, but not before fixing a strand of her hair. She wanted to make sure she looked perfect. She opened the door for Marie and the twins to be nice. She then walked over to the door and looked back at the others expectantly and with a large grin.

It took a moment for Marie to slip out of the car around the two car seats and then extract the squirming boys along with a bag that she quickly slung over her shoulder. She was still muttering to herself about how much of a hassle this was becoming when she turned and caught sight of the lovely house looming in front of her among the cluster of tall pines and oaks. It was almost like looking through the books she used to buy back when she was still living in the New York apartment. A home with enough room for family and friends and the most beautiful scenery she had seen in years. She would expect it to be something out of a real-estate magazine, not the home of Alistair’s family. Holding both boys, she followed after Josephine while admiring the landscape. “Nice place….If it weren’t so far out of the way, I’d say it’s a prime place to live.” She looked at Josephine, still absolutely ecstatic about this visit, and smiled. “Ease up Jo. You look like you’re going to jump clean out of your shoes…” Now she was starting to sound like her dad. Still, it was rather amusing to see her friend so excited over something must people dreaded. Perhaps it was a good thing she had no in-laws. Marie looked back at the others and then to the house again.

Cali and Ilac both stepped out of the car. Ilac gave an appreciative whistle. "Nice place." He said simply. Cali smiled some more. "Wow! This place looks nice! I still can't wait to meet your family Alistair." He said with enthusiasm.

Alistair got out out of the car and stood up, taking a deep breath of the fresh air and smiling. However, he only had a moment to react before the aforementioned girl ran out the front door of the house, across the yard, and into him.
"Uncle Alistair!!" she cried, hugging his middle as tightly as she could. "You're here!!" Alistair grinned as he heard this, even though she was squeezing a bit too hard.
"Good to see you too, Coco," he laughed, pulling her off him and bending down to give her a quick hug. "And the rest of us are here, too." Coco looked around at the group, excited to meet them all. Alistair looked up at his traveling companions. "Guys, this is Coco, my niece," he introduced her.

Jo walked up to Coco and have her a warm smile, "'Ello! My name eez Josephine LaBelle! I'm ze-" she suddenly stopped. She didn't have to say she was the camp therapist anymore seeing as they weren't at the camp anymore. Jo giggled sheepishly as she bowed her head, "I can't wait to meet ze rest of your family Coco! You all seem like very nice people!" she said with another big smile, trying her best to be friendly and warm like she always was. She wanted to be especially nice seeing as this was her boyfriend's family.

Cali smiled at seeing the young girl. He walked over to where Alistair was, looking at Coco. "Hello Coco, I'm Caligosto, but you can call me Cali. I'm your uncle now." Ilac came up as well. "As am I."

Coco smiled around to the three people who'd just introduced themselves. "You are? Cool!" she said as she grabbed Cali's hand and shook it rather vigorously. "And, it's nice to meet you, Ms. LaBelle... or should I call you Josephine?" the girl asked, not sure if she should be formal or not.
"Yet again, our human bullet beats us to the introductions," said a dry voice, and Alistair turned to see his brother, Alan, arrive down by the car with Lila. He looked just like Alistair remembered from earlier that year: still covered in freckles, still wearing his customary square glasses... still wearing those awful sweaters as well, Alistair observed. That was normal, though.
Alan cracked a grin at his older brother. "How've you been doing?" he asked warmly, moving in to give Alistair a hug. The Psychonaut returned it happily. "Pretty well. And you?" Alan grinned and returned to Lila. "I'll have to say we're doing well, ourselves."
Lila piped up then; "Who are all these new faces, then? The family you told us about when you called?" she asked sincerely. Alistair gave an affirming nod.
