{{Alistair and Jo please XD you guys wanted me to make this, so come or I'll HUNT YOU DOWWWWWWN}}
“Mrrrrow?”
The sound was soft as a slinky, lithe cat form wound around the leg of the man who stood at the medical cabinet, fixing up his doses of a very particular vaccine that was difficult to get this time of year. He’d ordered some a few weeks previously, knowing it was the season, and of course, just as he expected, a case had popped up. If he played his cards right, he wouldn’t have to use much of the vaccine, though. It was a doctor’s secret pride, to not have to see their patients often.
In this case, he’d never actually wanted to see one particular patient ever again.
The white-haired man knelt after a moment, taking off his gloved to give the lilac tomcat a good fur ruffling, letting the cat nip at his fingers playfully and act, for a brief, rare moment, as if he were a kitten again. The two got along well, and not even in a pet to master sense. Orien and Apex and Beacon were friends. The two cats stayed with him because they saw him as the most important thing in their lives, and he afforded them the same worth without a second thought. Cats were better than people, in his opinion.
“Flu vaccines… You never met Kara, you know. You hadn’t been born, then, but… Eh, it’s ancient history, anyhow. She left, that’s all there is to it….” the man picked up the feline, cradling him under his chin and sighing gently as the cat settled into a steady, thrumming purr, obediently limp in his arms, “Just wanted some love, huh? Alright, then…. You know I’d never trade you for anyone, right Apex? You’re my boy…”
Orien stood slowly, keeping Apex with him and kissing the cat on the top of the head, which only caused even deeper thrumming. The vaccines had only to be chilled, so the doctor moved to put them into the appropriate storage fridge and headed deeper into the office. He had a couch all his own, thankfully. A few uncomfortable chairs, too, but he rarely used those, preferring to lounge in comfort between visits of various campers with injuries. He happened to have an ample supply of burn salve; the kids really seemed to love pyrokenisis and the misuse thereof.
“Think she’ll actually come?” Orien muttered that to the cat as he flopped down, just shy of squishing the prone form of Beacon with his butt. Far from starting at the disturbance, though, the larger tom ‘mrow’ed sleepily and crawled up to press himself into the place where Orien’s body and the couch met, wriggling into the warm spot and settling to sleep there. The doctor had to fight laughing, more than a little ticklish, and his freer hand moved to soothingly rub the black tabby’s ear.
“Mrrr…” Apex’s ears flicked up and then down, almost a shrug movement that made the doctor smile.
“Yeah, she better, huh? I swear, if she spreads this by being stubborn I’ll tan her hide with her boyfriend’s severed nose….” He paused, making a face as the cat sneezed, having to snicker, “Exactly. Interesting but not a thought good for the brain.”
