Character’s Name: Bao, Xiu-Xiu.
Look of Door: An old wooden door, that looks like it's been through some rough weather for many years. The knob is tarnished and shaky.
Name of Mental World: Nightmare Sea
Look of Censors: Your basic censors -- Glasses, long limbs, always say 'No' -- but dressed LIKE THIS HANDSOME GENTLEMAN.
Basic Layout: A bright, blue, mostly cloudless sky, and sea as far as the eye can... see. At some point in this ocean, there is an island town, surrounded by skyscraper-sized, wooden panels, like a fortress. Perhaps not so coincidentally, this town is called Fortress. The only way to ENTER Fortress is through the top, which is left open. However, you can't actually see the town inside from the top, as it seems to be cloaked in a thick, black smoke...
Outside of Fortress, there is a large, impressive looking vessel, the S.S. No. Again, not so surprisingly, this ship is ran by Censors, along with a number of smaller ships that patrol the waters around Fortress, making sure nobody gets in.
A little farther away from Fortress is another ship, not nearly as spectacular looking as the Censor's ship. It's old and weather-worn. However, on the main deck, is a grand, fairly large golden cannon. This is the ship of the pirates who desperately want into Fortress.
There is also a small cove at the base of Fortress, where the Censor's keep their very expensive, very good gun powder.
Important People:
Captain Red; A young, female Red Panda who commands the pirate ship, the S.S. Wrickety. Very meek and childish, and really doesn't want to BE captain, but everybody else sorta... forced her to. Luckily, she makes a decent captain.
First-Mate Roman; A large, friendly brown bear who speaks exclusively in Russian. Gives all the new recruits a biiiiiig hug upon arrival, and can often be seen feeding the seagulls. A very gentle soul.
Scout Knirf-Knirf; The look-out and navigator of the ship, Knirf-Knirf is a rather indifferent lemur, who usually isn't very interested in the goings-on of anything below the crows nest. Can be seen carrying a compass at all times, and has green fur instead of white due to a diet high in limes (Gotta fight scurvy!). Main translator of Gaston and Roman.
Marksman Gaston; An uppity, over-dramatic French Poodle, who speaks in French and only French. The only one brave enough to go anywhere near the Golden Cannon. Is also the ship's one and only cook.
Cabin boy Toby; A small, red squirrel, Toby is a feisty kid who dreams of going up in the ranks. Often delights in giving new recruits a hard time. Does all the odd jobs nobody else wants to do. Has a very apparent British, cockney to be specific, accent.
Guard: One of two inhabitants of Fortress. Guard appears when she hears the screams of Xiu-Xiu. A ghost of a woman, who brings with her a pale green fog, a fog indiscriment from her long, smoke-like gown. Her skin is a paler green, with large, yellow-tinted eyes with white pupils. Long, black, smoke-like hair falls and mingles with the green fog. The vision of a diseased, beautiful death.
Xiu-Xiu: Remains in the crows nest of the ship in Fortress, playing her fiddle. Until you actually get inside the crows nest, where one can find her in a pitiful, vulnerable state as she is dressed in rags, and covered in scars, her long black hair kept down, falling over her like a security blanket of sorts. She desperately wants to fix her scars... but doesn't know how.
Costume Changes: Pirates, argh! Persons entering Xiu's mind either end up dressed as Pirates, Serving Wenches/Serfs (Male wenches), or cabin boys/girls. They may also get cutlasses after
Basic Plot: Upon entering Nightmare Sea, one either finds themselves flailing around in the ocean, or on the S.S. Wrickety. Not sure which is better. In any case, whoever is there better get on Wrickety as soon as possible, otherwise the Censors might find them first. In any case, the pirates are hell-bent on getting into Fortress, for reasons even unknown to them. But the Censor ships make it impossible! Of course, being the crafty crew that they are, they've found that going over the ships and the walls of Fortress is possible!... If they had a way to get the right gunpowder, and an expendable crew member. Guess who fits both those bills?
So, assuming that the person has survived stealing the Censor's gunpowder and safely returned to Wrickety, they will then be treated to an instant promotion... to 'Cannon Fodder'. Now, again, assuming Gaston actually aimed correctly and the person hasn't been shot into the wall of Fortress/Into enemy Censor ships/The completely opposite direction, the person will then fall into the swirling black smoke insides of Fortress...
As it turns out, Fortress isn't a town at all. Inside Fortress is the sea, and the sky. There are no walls to speak of, and one could see for miles. It's night time, with no clouds, no sound and a pale, full moon hanging in the sky, casting an eerie glow to the darkened sea below. In the middle of the sea is an old ship, in far worse condition than Wrickety, with it's tattered, torn sails, peeling, rotting wood, and general unkemptness. It stays entirely still as it lays on the equally unmoving ocean, but a creak or two can be heard from time to time. There is also a crows nest, a large one that looks like a barrel with a hole at the bottom for entering and exiting. A melancholy tune played from a Chinese fiddle can be heard coming from here after awhile of being on the ship... Do you go up?
If the person decided to go up the ladder and see what is inside the crows nest, they might be surprised to hear the voice of a child, asking them why they are there. Go up the ladder a bit more, the voice grows older, and more desperate. Go up more, the voice now sounds like a teenager, and an angry one, telling the person to leave. Once the person is near the entrance to the crows nest, the voice of an adult downright yells at the person to leave. It should also be noted that, the higher the person climbs the latter, the more fast-paced and panicked the music coming from the Chinese fiddle becomes.
Upon trying to actually enter the crows nest, a horrible shriek wrents the air, and the person is knocked off of the ladder, and falls to the deck of the ship. Suddenly, a fog of a sickly green shade rolls in, and before long, the ghost-like Guard has appeared before the person. At first, she speaks softly and is quite calm. This is often short lived, and in an instant, the once darkened sea cradling the boat becomes alive with the writhing, clawing mass of Nightmares, sending a fiery glow into the night. Guard will then fight the mental 'intruder' and will almost always win, breaking their astral projection.
... But, if you do win by chance, do feel free to climb into the crows nest now. Once inside, you will find Xiu-Xiu in her most pathetic state, covered in scars, with bandages and other first-aid kit supplies at her feet. You'll also notice the walls are, while not flesh-like, also have scars on them. You could try to help Xiu-Xiu fix herself and the walls... but just try and get near her, and she'll force your astral projection out of her mind.
Reasoning for Mental World:
1. She was a pirate so dur. Also, her old captain was a tad off-kilter in thinking he and his crew were romanticized pirates, not modern day ones. Guess it rubbed off on her... OK this is a lame excuse for me to have an old-timey pirate themed mental world so sue me.
2. The bright, colorful world outside of Fortress represents a mask of what she'd rather have people see. No need to see the dark, messed up insides, right? The insides of Fortress, however, remove a layer of this mask, showing Xiu's true mind. And the inside of the ghost ship's crows nest is the mask being torn off completely, showing Xiu's vulnerability and insecurities.
3. The pirates are animals because she likes animals duh. Each one represents where she has been, and who she has met there along the way.
