"Don't take it too personally... I don't zink she WANTS to be in zere... But I zink she just doesn't 'ave any ozer options..." Lambda said sadly as he looked over at the restaurant and sighed.
Suddenly an incredibly fancy looking and well-groomed woman ran over to the two men with a large umbrella. She was a good-looking figment about Lambda's height. She was out of breath but quickly walked in between the two of them so the umbrella covered all three of them, "'Allo Gentlemen!" she said with a little smile.
Lambda gave the woman a confused look and then looked back up at Alistair, "Oh... Zis is Belle... She's anozer one of ze clients..." he said with a strange look. She giggled and looked up at Alistair with an even bigger smile, "Pleasure to meet you monsieur! I deedn't zink I'd be shareeng my umbrella wiz two men today~" she giggled again and winked at both of them. Lambda sighed and shook his head.

Alistair was pleased to find that the rain was no longer pounding down on his head, so he turned his attentions to the woman who'd brought the umbrella over. "Ah, yes... my name is Alistair... thank you for the umbrella..." he said, giving her a quick smile and absently glancing over at the restaurant again.
"She's one of Jo's clients?" he asked Lambda quietly as he looked over Belle.

"Yes..." Said Lambda, "Anyzhing 'ere zat eesn't Jo or ze waiter eez a client..." he said with a sigh.
Belle continued to hold the umbrella and continued studying Alistair until she came to a conclusion and gasped, "OH~ Are you a friend of Jo's?~ Per'aps a beet more? Are you goeeng to save our poor leetle Josephine?" she asked each question without giving Alistair a chance to respond. She giggled excitedly, "Jo's lucky to 'ave such a cute one~"
Lamda tried to hush her, when suddenly an old man appeared near them. He looked Alistair over and scoffed. He also seemed like he was going to refuse to go under the umbrella and continued to glare at Alistair, "Cute?! Peh! Zis one's ze 'ole reason Mademoiselle LaBelle eez een zat blasted restaurant..." he lightly tapped Ali on the shoulder with his cane and spoke again, "Do you 'ave any idea wat you've done? You've ruined everyzing you 'orrid man...." the next tap of his cane wasn't so light.
Lambda sighed and put a man on the old man's shoulder, "Please Grincheux, zis eesn't ze same man..." Grincheux quickly smacked Lambda's hand off, "I 'eard wat Belle said! Don't zink I didn't 'ear! Maniaque 'eard too..." he said.
At the mention of her name, an extremely happy looking girl of about fifteen suddenly jumped out from behind Grincheux, "ALLO!!" her English was a lot worse than the adult's and her accent was much thicker. Despite these issues she gave Alistair a big hug, getting him wet in the process, and then back-flipping back to Grincheux, "HE EEZ PRETTY!!" she said with a large toothy smile. Grincheux grunted and looked away, still not convinced about Alistair. He smacked Alistair again with his cane but much more lightly, "Don't you dare zink about 'urting zat poor woman... She's broken enough as eet eez... She just sits in zat blasted restaurant all day and cries be'ind her menu..."

Alistair was suddenly bombarded with a rush of voices, and in confusion his eyes went quickly between the speakers as they each said their piece. He only caught bits and pieces of what was said, but Grincheux's smack-punctuated words got through to him most. "Oww!" he said quickly each time the old man managed to smack him, and when the other people had finished talking he shook off a bit of the water that Maniaque had transferred to him.
"...Sir, I'm not the man who left Jo behind," Alistair said first to Grincheux, his expression showing the truth in his words. "I wouldn't do that to anybody, ever! Especially not to Jo..." he said a little quietly. Having heard the last thing the old man Grincheux said, Alistair was really beginning to get sad for poor Josephine. "Poor Jo..." he said to himself.
Then he looked up at the assembled people. "I tried to get her out, but the waiter threw me out. Any of you have an idea of how to do better?"

Grincheux raised an eyebrow and, although he didn't stop glaring at Alistair, he believed what he was hearing. He was glad there was someone who cared for Jo like this and he gave a gruff grunt in acknowledgment to what Alistair was saying.
Belle was the first to respond to Alistair's question, "You should run in zere and sweep 'er off 'er feet, be 'er prince charmeeng! Ooooh 'ow romanteec!~" she said with a dreamy sigh. Grincheux of course didn't say anything. Maniaque was next, "YOU DO WHAT BELLE SAID!! BELLE'S ALL NICE AND SMART AND PRETTEE" she said in her shrill happy voice.
Lambda shook his head at all of them, "Eef you must go een Alistair... I'd suggest... Tryeeng to talk to 'er one more time...," Lambda suddenly looked at his watch and went back to looking at Alistair, "Ze waiter usually takes zis time to go to ze wine cellar so zis eez your only chance unless you want to stay here for a whole nozer day... Just... Just go talk to 'er... Zat's all she needs right now..." Lambda sighed sadly. He wasn't sure this was going to work, but there really wasn't any other choice. Belle pouted but silently agreed. As did Grincheux, who nodded as Lambda talked.
Lambda put a hand on Alistair's shoulder, despite the height difference and smiled weakly, "You must 'elp 'er Alistair... I zink you're ze only one zat can..."

Alistair took in the information readily, making a few quick choices as he formed a plan and hoped for the best. He nodded absently when Lambda spoke to him, tying off a few knots in what he'd planned. "Yeah... I guess so..." he murmured, looking over to the restaurant. He scrutinized it for a moment, his eyes often straying to Jo, who was visible through the window.
"Thanks for telling me that about the time, Lambda," he said, turning to cross the street with a determined air about him. "I'll go in there right now... don't think I can afford to wait a whole day..."
Pulling up his trench coat's collar again, Alistair strode to the restaurant and ducked in through the door, looking around furtively for the waiter before heading out towards the dining area.

The waiter, like Lambda had said, was in the wine cellar. He wasn't going to come back for awhile so the restaurant was basically empty except for Jo and Alistair.
Jo was doing what she was always doing in her mind, sitting at her table and sighing every now and then, glancing at the menu or taking a sip of wine. She seemed even more depressed than usual for some reason. She seemed to be thinking about something... Or maybe someone. She put down her glass and sighed again. She wasn't looking up from her menu that she had laid out on the table, so she didn't notice Alistair come in. She looked as she did before.
Ever since that strange man walked in, she began to wonder whether the other one was even going to show up. She had never done this before and it was confusing her. She quickly snapped out of it and went back to waiting for him, as she had always done before.

Alistair slowed as he approached the table, getting more nervous as he went over what he was going to do yet again. Finally, he stopped right in front of Jo's table. As he looked at her, he realized how absolutely pretty- and sad- she looked. The Psychonaut's eyes softened a bit as he thought, but he shook himself out of it. It was time to go into action.
Ali cleared his throat to catch her attention, and when she would look up he would say, "May I sit down, please?"

Josephine suddenly looked up and gasped. It was the handsome stranger from before who the waiter had so rudely kicked out. She blushed and looked back down at her menu, and then back up at him, "I'm... I'm very sorry sir... But zis seat eez reserved..." she said in a quivering voice. She really seemed to like Alistair, but she wanted to be faithful to the other 'man' and keep her promise. But Alistair was making it very hard.
She had such a sad look in her eye, and she feared the waiter would return with Alistair still there. She didn't want to know what the waiter would do to him. She sighed and bit her lip, "Please... You must leave... He'll be back soon... I don't want him to geet you again..." she said sadly and hurriedly as she looked towards the wine cellar.
Poor Jo was so fixated on this man that would probably never show up. She was so confused and lost and afraid. She noticed though that each time she looked at this new man, she felt a little... Happier...? Her happy? She didn't know how to handle this emotion, so she went back to looking at the menu.

"Please, just for a moment!" Alistair said quickly, moving forward a bit in his urgency but remembering to stop himself. He glanced towards the door nervously at Josephine's mention of the waiter coming back, but when he saw the coast was clear he looked back towards Jo.
He quickly sat down in the chair opposite of her and said, looking at her across the table, "Josephine, I have something very important to tell you... and I have to tell you now..."

Josephine put down her menu and gave him a sad look. She prayed the waiter wouldn't come back now, this man seemed like he had something very important to say.
"Might as well tell me..." she sighed, closing her menu, "I've 'eard it all before anyway... From my clients... Maybe you'll 'ave somezing new to tell me..." she placed her menu down and looked at him expectantly, yet still having that same tired expression she always had in her mind.

"You know the guy you're waiting for?...." Alistair paused, unsure of what to say next. Then he swallowed, cleared his throat, and continued.
"The man you're waiting for isn't going to come. He's not coming at all, and... frankly, I don't think he's thought about you much in the time that you've been waiting here." He looked away from Jo, unsure if she believed him, and then decided to say another thing. Now, it's not a really bad lie, but more of a small white lie- and besides, it's all going to be for the best in the end, I think, he said to himself right as he said out loud... "To tell you the truth... uh, I know the guy. And, uh... he told me to tell you he wasn't coming...."
He waited for Josephine to respond, looking at anywhere but her face, wondering when it would be best to tell her the last part of what he had planned...

Josephine suddenly gasped. All of those years waiting... A complete and total waste. She was devastated to say the least. A man she thought had cared for all these years, a man she thought had wanted to come see her... Didn't care. All of that time wasted. She was speechless before she suddenly began to sob. She got up, not even bothering to pay, and tried to run away... Run away from everything. As she was running down the streets of rainy Paris, she suddenly stopped.
Why did she trust that man? Why did she believe the first thing that came out of his mouth? She looked back, panting. She wasn't too far from the restaurant. She just needed some time to calm down... That's all she needed... Right? She looked up at the sky and started crying again.
The clients simply hid in an alleyway and watched, amazed that she had left, but heartbroken to see Josephine like this. She had helped each and every one of them deal with their problems without asking anything in return. They looked at each other sadly, not knowing what to do.

Alistair's face turned concerned when Josephine began to cry. He tried to put a hand out onto her shoulder, but she had jumped up and run away before he could do anything but give a surprised gasp. "Josephine!"
He jumped up as well, worry etched into his features and followed Jo's path out of the restaurant. However, when he got into the street he yelped and paused to cover his head with his coat, since there was now a sudden torrent raining down on the city. In this time, he lost track of which way Josephine had gone.
"Oh no... Josephine!" he called out into the rain, picking a direction at random and heading down the street. "Josephine! Where are you? Come back! You didn't let me finish!" he shouted as he ran through the drenched streets.

Josephine suddenly turned around and saw the man. He was running towards her and she took a few steps back. She heard what he had said and yelled back to him, "ZEN TELL ME NOW... TELL ME NOW WHILE I'M LIKE ZIS...." she said through sobs. She fell to her knees in the puddle that was starting to form where she stood. She put her face in her hands and cried.
The rain seemed to worsen with each sob and the clients watched as Alistair approached her, hoping he would be able to do something, if anything.
Josephine's makeup was running and probably washed away by now. She kept telling herself she looked like a wreck, and the rain fell even harder.
