Character’s Name: Marley Jackson
Look of Door: The door is made of wood, painted a deep purple. There are little tears in the wood made by various claws that show the pale yellow wood of the door underneath. It looks a little like a Nightmare's cloak, really.
Name of Mental World: The Nightmares' Realm
Look of Censors: There are no Censors. The only mental entities in Marley's mind besides himself are Nightmares. Luckily, some of them help out around his mind and keep things in order, since he's basically their kin.
Basic Layout: Marley's mind is a little like a small valley town in essence; there are a few buildings nestled amongst the land there, but the most dominating feature of his mind is that it's almost completely twisted to look Nightmarish. Everything is shades of red, purple, black, and firey yellow.
As I said before, the only mental entities in Marley's mind are Nightmares, and here they are able to move above ground instead of remaining in their subterranian lairs. They wander his mind, safe from any one who would try to hurt them. This safe haven that Marley's mind is has actually attracted many Nightmares, and they populate his mind and give him a few 'tips' most of the time; they are what influences most of his instinct. Amongst the Nightmares in his mind is their very leader, Queen Henrietta, who set up her palace in Marley's mind.
Important People:
Marley: Obviously, Marley is in his mind. He looks very different than he does in the real world, though. In his mind, his hat and sweater are gone, as is the long-sleeved red shirt he wears. Instead, his arms and hands are actually red, and he has four of each. In addition, the skin on his face is black, like a Nightmare's head. He also has a small nightmare tail and his hair is completely lavender, like a normal Nightmare's. He mingles around in his mind, sometimes talking to the other Nightmares but mostly keeping to himself and making sure that the Nightmares don't mess up his brain.
In his mind, he has his venom. The nightmare it produces is one about his fear of stairs and open spaces.
Queen Henrietta: Henrietta is the Queen of the Nightmares, and lives in Marley's mind since it would be the safest place for her to carry out her duties. She lives in one of the buildings the Nightmares built (the buildings in Marley's mind were all Nightmare-made.) Henrietta is a very intelligent, feisty, and conniving lady, and is very good at fighting. She's also a leader, which is obviously a good advantage for her job.
Her venom creates a nightmare about losing control of your life to another (the one who takes over is played by her in the nightmare.)
Beauregard: This Nightmare is one of the few pleasant ones. He's pretty sweet and subdued from being a little out of the loop because of his missing arm and broken antenna. He lost his left antenna first, in a fight with a Psychonaut; then he lost his lower right arm when a bunch of Censors ambushed him (he couldn't sense them very well because his antenna was broken and thus didn't work correctly). He was, incidentally, the one who discovered Marley's mind (about six years ago) and told the rest of Nightmare society about it. He enjoys talking to Marley, and often tries to nudge him in the 'right' direction- obviously, the direction of his instincts. He does, however, encourage Marley's cautious nature. Sometimes, Beau seems to have second thoughts about encouraging the boy's Nightmarish nature. On a different note, Beau and Henrietta were once in love, and he still has feelings for her. Henrietta usually uses this soft spot to get him to do things for her, though. Usually exceedingly dangerous things.
Beau's nightmare venom creates a nightmare about self-failure, generally something about making a huge mistake and ruining your life for good.
Sergei: Another Nightmare, Sergei is a bad dream about a viper, and looks very much like one. He was defeated in a fight with a Censor Boss about three years ago which weakened him immensely, but has now gotten enough power back to have more control in Marley's mind. He is one of the greatest factors in influencing Marley's instincts, and often provokes most of Marley's attacks. He's a tricky, conniving, and mean-spirited creature; just the right example of a good Nightmare. He and Beau don't like each other at all. Edit: Sergei now only has one complete arm; his lower right arm was bitten off in a battle with Swift. He's going to get a prosthetic, though.
Of course, Sergei's venom makes a nightmare about a gigantic viper, though it's evolved a bit since he was defeated by the Censor Boss.
Costume Changes: There are no costume changes in Marley's mind besides the fact that a large target symbol (showing that they're fresh Nightmare fodder) appears on the backs of whoever has entered his mind.
Basic Plot: Marley is getting alarmed at how quickly Nightmares have been coming into his mind. They've also been getting restless; Marley often stumbles upon congregations of Nightmares discussing. He wants to know what they're talking about, and why his instincts have been getting through more and more, lately.
Reasoning for Mental World: Marley is obviously part Nightmare, so it makes sense that his mind would be a safe place for them.
SPECIAL NOTE ON NIGHTMARES: Throughout this description I've referred to various Nightmares in Marley's mind and their venom determining what type of nightmare they are. Please know that all Nightmares produce hallucinogenic venom in their fangs. When they have obtained a victim, they will bite the person/Censor/etc. and inject large amounts of venom into their astral projection, which in turn makes them hallucinate different surroundings, different people, and sometimes changes happening to themselves. This hallucination is, in turn, the 'nightmare' that we would normally see when we're asleep.
A Nightmare's venom is determined by two things: the mind they were born in, and what has happened in their personal life in the Mental World. Take Sergei, for example: originally, the nightmare his venom made was one about being attacked by a huge snake that lunges at you to bite you right as you wake up, because the person whose mind he was in was afraid of snakes. However, after his defeat, he's used his own will power and other psychic influences to make his venom create a different nightmare that's even worse than before. Now, you get attacked by the snake, but it succeeds in biting you and you begin to turn into a snake-monster, your legs becoming a snake tail and etc.
Granted, not everyone reacts to each type of venom the same, but the events in the nightmare are always the same. Only the small details change (i.e., your surroundings, if people are in the nightmare, how long your fall is, etc.)
