Cannon Or Original?: Original
Full Name: Marie Julian Grestofski
Nicknames: Mars, Greta, and sometimes Mary
Age: 20 years old
Gender: Female
Birthday: December 16, 1989
Profession: Ex-Olympic Athlete (Gymnast specializing in all fields) and a Psychonaut Agent currently in charge of teaching Telekinesis at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp.
Skills: Marie is, in a sense, one of the most athletic people one could ever hope to meet. After being trained since she was a child, she has been conditioned to have somewhat unusually toned upper and lower body strength for her size. She is also very flexible and a master of three forms of martial arts which can make her both agile and formidable when in hand to hand combat. Of course, her intelligence comes into play as well as she is rather quick with both mathematics and physical science.
Special Abilities: As a Psychonaut, Marie has a well trained mind to go with her well trained body. Her specialty is telekinesis. After working her mind almost to the breaking point, she has gained the mental strength to lift nearly anything or anyone and manipulate them to rather amazing limitations. Also, should her temper flare, her mental strengths can go rather off course and cause quite a few mishaps. These can include things flying off the wall, items exploding spontaneously, and all result in a major headache from her own temper flares.
Weaknesses: There are many things that make Marie a bit less of a courageous hero than she appears. For one, she is deathly afraid of the dark. Some say this is because of a traumatic moments as a child but Marie, refusing to look back that far, only knows that she is completely paralyzed when put in a situation where the lights go out. She also has a bad leg after a mishap during one of her Olympic performances that has left her partially handicapped.
The bone having been completely shattered, she never recovered quite right and now finds it difficult to run for too long, jump, or do any of the gymnastics she lived for as a young girl. It has also been proven that Marie has slightly mental instability. This is nothing major as of now other than her overwhelming nightmares. She is also prone to emotional breakdowns, but that has dwindled as time has passed. Marie can also be rather untrusting and hesitant in most any situation which can make her hard to work with in a group.
Special Note: At age 5 Marie was adopted, though she wont admit it, and was later disowned again. Marie covers this by telling people she ran away from home, but she is simply sore about having been abandoned twice in her life. She also has a rather twisted sense of reality in her mind that is basically her escape from the turmoil of the real world and is plagued by constant nightmares of her past that she is afraid to fight. Also, on a less depressing note, Marie collects teddy bears that she displays in her cabin and even carries one with her when she has her duffle bag. Most of Marie’s secrets, however, are based off her past which she would rather forget. Marie also has a habit of drawing strange pictures that are actually images she sees in her mind developed into a cryptic code.
Physical Description:
Marie is a lovely young woman in her twenties; very physically fit with the body of an athlete that is both graceful and elegant. She has long black hair that spans to just above the curve of her hip with very uneven ends from the last time she cut it and her eyes are a striking yet intelligent shade of green that turn to a dull gray when she is thinking or using her psychic abilities. She’s rather short, standing at about five foot two and weighs exactly 120 pounds as she believes its unacceptable for her to gain weight. Marie’s skin is of a ghostly white from a lack of sun and rather sensitive to temperature changes.
Her expressions are usually very unreadable and even stern as she often thinks a bit more than she has to and focuses greatly, but people say that when she does smile, she looks like an angel (probably because most don’t see it and it’s a miracle when she does) Her lips are often lightly coated in blood as she does tend to chew her lower lip when she gets nervous and is her reason for always carrying lipgloss (normally peppermint flavored) wherever she goes. Marie also has a tattoo that spans from the middle of her back and down to her tail bone of an intricate image of two intertwined dragons constricting a hearts; mostly done in black ink other than the red of the dragons’ eyes. She does, however, make an effort to keep it covered. As Marie is of Romanian decent, she has a slight accent usually only shown when she pronounces Vs.
Clothing Style/Uniform: Marie’s choice of clothing is far from the boring green sweater of a conventional Psychonaut. She believes that comfort should come before formalities and prefers to dress how she likes. Most of the time her outfit consists of shorts, usually khakis, and a tank top of some sort. Very rarely does she wear anything along the lines of dresses or skirts. She only owes two pairs of shoes, one formal and the other sneakers, and will never go barefoot if she has a choice. The color of her clothing is often determined by her mood, bright colors for happy and dark colors for neutral, but they are all tailored to cover her tattoo. Her hair is up 99 percent of the time, sometimes under a hat and the only jewelry she wears is a pair of stud, pearl earrings. Marie also can be seen wearing gloves as they protect the sensitive skin of her palms.
Family: Marie’s birth family is unknown as she was abandoned at birth and lived in an orphange until she was five and the only family she knows is her adoptive family, the Beaudets. This family consisted of Kimberly, he older adoptive sister, Caroline, her mother who died suddenly not long after Marie arrived, and Chris, her overbearing and perfectionist father. She has no contact with this family, however, as they disowned her only a few days after she lost the ability to compete.
Personality: Anyone who looks at Marie would probably see a strong and intelligent woman with her life completely figured out. On the outside, she holds a stoic and analytical demeanor that can be rather off-putting, and tends to be rather touchy about her personal life. People have often described Marie as somewhat anti-social and possibly a bit spiteful, but those are the people who have yet to see beyond the mask.
When one really gets to know Marie, they are shown the true and faithful person that she really is. She is actually rather young at heart with a very good sense of humor. Marie loves to laugh and smile, but finds it difficult because of her cautious of the world and some see her as being rather sarcastic with her jokes. Her attitude can be rather secretive as she does not enjoy having people judge her for who she is, but one can always tell when she has something that she really wants to share with the world (whether she says anything or not is a whole other story) Because she has been hurt in the past, Marie can be rather quick to judge herself and constantly second guesses herself. Those who manage to spark her interest and give her a sense of security find that she is simply a frightened young woman in need of a little support.
While Marie is a bit timid, she is learning to fight her fears for the good of others and will throw herself into the line of fire to protect someone else, but that requires getting on her good side which can prove difficult. Despite popular belief, she is very good with kids and even wants her own someday. Marie knows when to be kind and when to be strict and has gained a lot of respect because of it. She will never strike someone without a reason and is generally a good, and loving person at heart.
Quirks: Quirks about Marie can be somewhat hard to notice unless one looks closely. She chews at her lower lip when nervous, often loses focus when she gets wrapped up in her own thoughts, sneezes when people talk about her (often thought to be a result of some hidden psychic ability), and also has a very uncontrollable temper that, when sparked, can do a lot of damage. She also tends to do some…..unique sketches.
Likes: Any and all sweets, teddy bears, animals, children, relaxing under a tree, reading, drawing, and, oddly enough, being close to people.
Dislikes: Lake water, the dark, talking about her family and past, people trying to “fix” her, and being left alone.
History: When Marie was just a baby, barely 8 months old, she was found in a box on the side of the road. It was decided that she had been abandoned by a family who could not care from her and she was quickly placed in the care of the “West Point, New York Orphanage.” Marie spent 5 years there and was soon adopted by the Beaudet family not long after her 5th birthday. It seemed harmless at first, but she soon learned that she had not been adopted out of love. After the death of her adoptive mother, the motives for her adoption were shone through by her father. She was soon thrown into rigorous training and physical therapy to ensure she was the most efficient athlete there was. Her father’s goal was to retire early off the millions she would make as an Olympic Gold Medalist and somehow convinced Marie that as long as she did everything right, she would be everything to him. This, in turn, angered her adoptive sister and she was soon put through abusive hell from the then 10 year old girl. It eventually came to the point where Marie was placed in a different home away from Kimberly, a old Victorian were she was watched over by a number of personal trainers.
Half of Marie’s life was spent in either that home or the gymnastics center. When at long last she was 16, the legal age to compete, Marie was drafted into the Summer Olympics with every hope of fulfilling her father’s wishes and winning gold. Her first two runs gained her twin silvers, but that was not enough to gain satisfaction from her family. With only one more run to go, she was a sure to win gold, but fate took a turn for the worst. Her landing failed and her leg bone was completely shattered. It didn’t take a genius to figure out she would never compete again. Marie’s father disowned her on the spot and all but vanished from her life and Marie was put into foster care for 2 years; recovering slowly, but never the same. In those two years she began to take interest in another gift she had had for years. The gift of a psychic mind. Before long she was drafted into the Psychonauts with one of the best telekinetic minds seen in years. Marie took no time making a new life for herself; changing her name and leaving New York to live in a spanning country side with her multiple dogs. After a very short new life, Marie received a rather unsettling letter that turned things around for her in so many ways. The letter was from her father, Boris Rivencroft, and it requested her presence back home. Having never actually met her father, Marie was more than happy to go and soon found herself at the home of her mysterious birth family. How could she have known that Boris Rivencroft was one of the world’s biggest mob bosses? Upon arrival, Marie was caught up in things she could not control and learned things from her past that she would have rather never heard including that her father had killed her mother in a drunken rage when she was a baby. Her only job after that was to keep him a secret and, should the need arrive, take over the family business in his absence.
She is now a counselor at Whispering Rock and hoping the world will finally give her a break.
